SOFTWARE ENGINEER - FULL STACK


As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing software across Astreia's operational and customer-facing applications. This will include developing the control system software, as well as tools to significantly increase the efficiency of habitat development. You will have strong experience in building reliable software that is able to operate without fail on remote sites, and the technical expertise to build applications that are optimized and intuitive. Demonstration of strong user-centric understanding will be highly valued. You will be comfortable managing the complete software lifecycle and working in a high-energy early-stage startup environment to bring the habitat systems to reality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop software systems for the construction and operation of the habitats
• Manage the complete software development lifecycle from requirements and prototyping to production and deployment
• Provide ongoing support and optimization of software, especially systems operating on-site

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or applied mathematics OR 3+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering
Astreia values passion for the long-term mission and an aptitude for problem solving over formal degrees or lengthy experience.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in web and app (iOS, Android) development
• Fluency in C, React, Javascript, Python
• Proficiency with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS
• Experience with configuration management tools and build systems
• Deep understanding of testing, continuous integration, build, deployment & continuous monitoring
• Solid understanding of UI/UX design to provide intuitive applications
• Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving abilities
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner as well as with a team, communicating effectively and objectively
• Propensity to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

It is strongly preferred that applicants are located in or willing to relocate to Austin, Texas within the coming year.

EMBEDDED SOFTWARE ENGINEER


As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing the cyber-physical infrastructure that operates in the habitats. This will include developing software to monitor and control sensors and devices in the habitat, with integration of both proprietary and third-party smart home devices. You will have strong experience in building extremely secure and reliable embedded software and drivers for devices, and working knowledge of smart home communication protocols. Having a willingness to contribute to hardware selection and product design will be an advantage. You will be comfortable managing the complete software lifecycle and working in a high-energy early-stage startup environment to bring the habitat systems to reality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop secure and reliable Linux application code for devices and systems operating in the habitats
• Manage the complete software development lifecycle from requirements and prototyping to production and deployment
• Provide ongoing support and optimization of systems operating on-site

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, applied mathematics and 2+ years of experience in systems-level C (kernels, device drivers, hypervisors) OR 4+ years of hands-on experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Proficiency in writing Linux kernel code for real-time systems
• Fluency in C/C++ and Python
• Experience in Wi-Fi, wireless MCUs/MQTT/IoT, device APIs, and knowledge of Zigbee
• Strong skills in debugging (e.g. on GDB), performance optimization, and unit testing
• Experience shipping embedded software in products that require continuous and high reliability performance
• Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving abilities
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner as well as with a team, communicating effectively and objectively
• Propensity to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
